Cladding vs Thermal Spraying

Is anybody aware of the difference in performance, and price, between cladding (as of sheets) vs thermal spraying of the same alloy?

I am inclined towards thermal spraying due to much better adhesion. I guess it would be cheaper as well.

The service is wet sour gas.

Any thoughts?

When you say clad are you thinking 'wallpaper'?
Or are you thinking of roll bonded or explosively welded cladding?
There is a huger performance difference, any type of clad gives you the actual solid wrought CRA to resist corrosion.
The biggest issues with spray are adhesion and porosity. Both of which can result in severe failure.

@Ed - use of 'sheets' in the question leads one to believe that it's wallpapering

My question is about vessels. So do you guys prefer the cladding (wallpapering) over thermal spraying? I have always thought the other way :(!

I see four options;
-solid clad (roll or explosive)
-wallpaper
-weld overlay
-spray

The have different costs, different impacts on design, and different expected performance.
This is a complex issue.

in my opinion, spray is not as resistant as cladded solution because sprayed layers are tens of microns thick, whereas clad is several mm. srpray is usually implemented versus external corrosion (TSA) only.
wallpaper is no clad, and wallpaper should usually be avoided for pressure items.

For thermal sprays, as with polymer coatings, it just takes one break to cause a problem.
