We have identical joint configurations for long and circumferential seams. Both sides with SAW welding. The shell to head configuration joint is different from the long seam and circumferential seams. This joint, (Head to shell) is welded by SAW from the outside and SMAW/SAW from the inside.
The closing seam which is between shell to shell is welded from the inside by SMAW and outside SAW.
As per ASME VIII div 2-T2, we are obliged to provide test coupons for each WPS used for A and B category joints.
Do we have to provide 3 test coupons one for long seam, one for circumferential seam between shell to head, and one for closing seam between shell to shell?
Joint configuration for long seam and circumferential seams for shells is J preparation from outside, and V preparation from inside and for shell to head, its V preparation from both sides, and for the closing seam its J preparation from outside and V from inside.
We have covered all these joint configurations is one WPS and are arguing with our AI that we shall only supply two test coupons one of which for the long seam, and the other for closing seam. The AI is insisting for three test coupons (each joint configuration on each vessel).
Kindly let me know if I have to provide 2 test coupons or three
