As a fan manufacturer our motors are hard bolted to the fan casing and there is very little movement. Must we use a flexible connection such as Crouse Hinds ECGJH flexible couplings?
I can't find no clear statement on the limitations of hard conduit pipe and motors in the NEC.

Or is just standard practice to always use a flexible coupling, regardless of motor mounting system?

Any thoughts much appreciated.

The code does not prohibit the use of hard pipe to a motor, but it is not very common to find such an installation in the field. The use of a flexible connection makes it a lot easier when you have to replace the motor or service the equipment.

Over here in England I don't see these things, but you've helped me to understand the application, I will keep the flexiible connection in.

Many thanks.
