Can anyone inform me as to what the differences are between current limiting fuse type L and RK1s? IEEE1584 has different arc flash calculation parameters for each of these different types.

Any ideas why?

Different clearing times. Look at a fuse catalog for the characteristic curves of both types of fuses, through in RK5 also just for good measure.

Class L fuses are not normally considered as current limiting.
