In this process one of subsystems is : incinerator / superheater / waste heat boiler (aka evaporator) + steam drum & stack

Gas burned is a tail gas from upstream SRU units...
All these equipments can be visualized as follows:

HeatRecovery_bieu80.png

source:
Currently x2 pairs (x1 on superheater tube & x1 on steam drum) of PSVs are located at the red arrow shown & all steam generating equipment [superheater / waste heat boiler (aka evaporator) + steam drum] as under ASME Section I

I have read all the forum entries here & all boils down to this one phrase fired/unfired boiler. Sometimes distinguishing either is clear sometimes it isn't...

Is it possible to reclassify steam equipments to ASME Section VIII. Major reason is to provide isolation to PSVs. Code Case 2254 for Section I is also under review...

I am not well conversant with Section 1 however I have used Sec VIII Div 1 for construction of WHB and Steam Drum of such an SRU unit. Please read para U-1(g). That being said, please err on conservative interpretation when it comes to safety and over pressure protection issues.

Hi, as Some Curios Guy wrote, read ASME Section VIII-1 U-1(g).
Moreover, there is an interpretation dealing with fired/unfired boiler (electric boiler) that might help.
Search for Interpretation Number I-81-01. Record Number BC-80-265

Thanks for replying I cannot find this Interpretation Number I-81-01 do please attach ait.

In the meantime I found this fired/unfired too much funky ...there are too many threads already on this forum. Thats why I tried focused example

Regarding my example please read the attachment where the author quotes ASME Section VIII in favour of SRU WHB

Hi,
In the ASME Interpretations Database: [link]https://cstools.asme.org/Interpretation/SearchInterpretation.cfm[/url]
Under Search for Issued Interpretations, Interpretation #: type i-81-01.

From the interpretation:
Question: The Preamble of Section I defines an electric boiler as "a power boiler or a high temperature water boiler in which the source of heat is electricity." Would you define whether or not an electric boiler is considered to be a fired or an unfired steam boiler?

Reply: PEB-2 provides criteria for determining if an electric boiler is considered to be a fired or an unfired steam boiler. An electric boiler where heat is applied to the boiler pressure vessel externally by electric heating elements, induction coils, or other electrical means is considered to be a fired steam boiler. An electric boiler where the medium (water) is directly heated by the energy source (electrode type or electric immersion element type) is considered to be an unfired steam boiler.
