Hi-

Could anyone explain what a clipping relief valve is? I've been searching but I haven't been able to find a definite answer.

An ambiguous hydraulic term...

To me, it is the process of grinding the edge off of a valve poppet/spool to make it spill that little bit earlier.

For example, with viscous oil, the spill pressure might be a little high. Taking the edge off the spool makes it go a little earlier. It can also be used to give a valve a smoother opening characteristic.
