Say a full NFPA 13 system, will not get into occupancy type.

Say it is offices.

And each office has a regular size closet say 3x4 feet.

And the building plans show "Drapery" covering in place of door.

But show no sprinklers in closet?

Is the drapery an obstruction and sprinkler needs to be added to each closet?

Or no obstruction and room sprinkler would suffice.

If there is no lintel or nothing to obstruct the room sprinkler, I would probably just use the room sprinkler if it could be positioned to throw into the area.

That is some of the basis, I was going to require a sprinkler in the closet.

While I probably would not have put one back there. I could not really argue with being required to provide one. If you follow 8.6.5.2.2.1, then this curtain you describe likely does not meet the criteria and it would be an obstruction requiring sprinklers on both sides. I would make sure they are 6' from one in the main room though. If the curtain is open and there is not a lintel, then they could potentially cold solder.
