I have recently ran into a situation where ABSA has requested a detial procedure for preforming closure weld(s).
I have requested that the mechanical contractor develop the required procedure base on there WPS
Is there any guide lines that might help out on this?

Closure welds can be critical. One example of this, if you have a vessel that contains internal components and the closure weld requires post weld heat treatment (PWHT), make sure that the affect of PWHT does not impact the other materials internal to the vessel. If so, the temperature and time for PWHT of the closure weld might need to be adjusted (lower temperature longer time).

By closure welds I assume you mean exempt from hydro test? Generally the welds should be limited to butt welds and subjected to RT or UT. Socket welds will likely not be acceptable. Closure welds should be kept to the minimum with a hydro test already done on each side.
