I'm a NC Programmer utilizing CATIA v4 so programming a helix bore in catia is no problem. The machine operator will sometimes have to do some modifications at the machine controller and often need an odd size c'bore or clearance hole and have to helix the bore. How do you MDI (manual data input) a helix on a Fanuc controller?
Thanks

I would think you could post it in Catia and just look at the code. It has to be in the correct format. Therefore just copy it and modify and use as necessary.

Another way to accomplish this is to have a program written to make a 1 inch helix. Use cutter comp to comp your tool on. You can adjust the tool diameter value to change the size of your finish helix.

For instance if you need a 1.1" helix and you are using a 0.5" cutter, just enter a 0.4" cutter diameter value in the machine control. Voila, the thing cuts oversize and you have your 1.1" diameter. This assumes an internal helix. The diameter offset value would be larger for an exteranl helix.

Helical interpolation is easy stuff. Refer to the manual, as codes and the method of using them varies between operating systems.
