I cannot answer why it was not included in the current version (although I would guess it had to do with prioritization of resources available to work on the various modules), but I do know there is work on a CO2 Corrosion module for future release. Both the Base Resource Document (API-581) and the API software are being revised. I believe the plans are to incorporate CO2 Corrosion (and other newly developed mechanisms) into the revisions.

I'll confirm the work on the CO2 Corrosion Module for API 581 and the revision of the BRD (API 581) and software.

As far as the CO2 Corrosion Module is concerned, a completed written module is being worked on. It will probably be available in the 2nd half of 2006 sometime. It will be included in the new BRD.

Current plans put the v6 software release as v6.1 (mid year) and v6.2 (early 2006). There will be additional damage modules included in the v6.2 release. Also, the BRD revision is planned for early to mid 2006 release.

You must remember that the current edition of API 581 was written prior to May 2000 (it's release date) and some damage mechanisms were not addressed appropriately to each and every user. The document was meant to be added to and have it's information adapted as new findings/data was made available. With the new software and current revisions to the document, you should find the new release to be more comprehensive - when it is available.

I know it may seem disconcerting, but for this one 'patience is a virtue'.
