CO2, Potasium Carbonate System, V2O5 as corrosion inhibitor

I need to understand and I need to know when and how the chemical reactions occur between Fe and V2+. I am looking for the corrosion meganism.

Secondly, what would be the maximum velocity of the gas stream through a column that would cause the vanadium protective layer to dissapear due to erosion?

V2O5 readily forms a protective coating over Fe. You may find something on the specific chemistry in the old Bureau of Mines papers, either Joe Field or Don McCrea would be an author. I suspect either inadequate passivation or low V2O5 concentration for corrosion, unless the solution also contains Arsenic which must be removed for the V2O5 protection to perform. I don't know at what velocity you would see erosion, my feeling is if you are operating with good vapor/liquid distribution you would not see erosion.
