Coach Bolt Washer / Bushing

Hi All,

First post on the forum!

I am trying to create an assembly (attached & linked) of a 5x22x5mm V groove ball bearing & fastening method. I have been looking at the bolt options for this and closest I can find for it is a coach bolt. I have seen these many times but cannot understand how to make the square inset part lock in. Is there a specific washer or bushing that you need to lock this in? Or is ti a different method altogether?

Not everything useful in life resides on the McMaster Carr and Fastenal websites.

I believe the bearings mount on special snug or even tight fitting shoulder bolts. Some have eccentric features to serve as adjusters.

A carriage bolt has a square, anti-turn segment. A coach bolt has a self-tapping thread.

Carriage bolts are for use when it is desired to have that end of the fastening to be non-snagging. It also saves by not needing to have a second wrench.

Normally in the use of a carriage bolt the structure has a broached square hole or, in the case of lumber, the fastener is self-broaching.

Is there a diagram of exactly which location in that assembly you are looking to fasten?
