Coaltar Epoxy for hydrocarbon product

Good evening Gents,

Would you please share to me the reason that Coaltar Epoxy is not suitable for Hydrocarbon product like crude oil ?

This is basically depending on the crude composition. Coal tar can be used for crude oil storage tanks, but yes it is not not recommended for prolonged contact with strongly oxidizing chemicals, and alcoholes, due to detrimental reaction. Also there is a user specific restriction nowadays for the use of coat tar.

Thanks for the explanation.

Yes in our client specs it is stated Coaltar Epoxy for Crude Oil Tank.

Now my other concern is our painting subcontractor use Coaltar Epoxy with maximum operating temperature 48 degree C.

Our Crude Oil Tank maximum operating temperature is 60 degree C.

I am not sure if there is Coaltar Epoxy with 60 degree C maximum operating temperature.

Phenolic or Novolac Epoxy could handle up to 80 degree C.

I can't say anything with out knowing your product details. Anyways temperature sensitivity depends on the composition. Even though coal tar epoxy, max temperature will subject to manufacturer. But coal tar is very sensitive to heat distortion also in lower temperatures like 38 deg C and above. However, you may get some of the products details from differenct manufacturers and compare. Inspectors cant do anything more than this.
