Hi, I'm looking for a coating for steel pipe that can last for at least 2 years in marine environment. Any recommendations?

Can the coating be applied ahead of time, or does the coating need to be applied on-site?

Hi tbuelna,

It's applied ahead of time, during manufacturing of the pipe.

Well, will the corrosion and wear you are trying to prevent for "two years" be on the inside of the temporary pipe, or the outside?
Continuous immersion, or air + salt water tides, or air + salt spray, or air + waves and impact?
What is the fluid inside the pipe? What pressure and temperature?
When the "paint" goes bad in less than 2 years, what is the penalty when the pipe corrodes through? Oil spill? Fire, flooding, feasts or famine?

Sorry, my question is perhaps misleading.

The pipes are shipped by sea. That's when they are exposed to salt water (splashes, etc). It could last for months.
The 2 years I mentioned earlier is in fact sort of "shelf life". The are stacked in a yard, under the sun and rain.
The coating need to protect the pipes from localized corrosion, or pitting.

We are more concerned about the external of the pipe, because normally the internal does not corrode as much.

A good epoxy coating applied under controlled conditions in a factory should easily provide adequate corrosion protection for 2 years storage in an exposed marine environment. You might take a look at the epoxy coatings used on steel rebar. They are economical, easy to apply and are designed for coating steel exposed to a marine environment.
