I have a need to apply a coating or process of some type to one or two pieces of aluminum in a plastic injection mold assembly to prevent galling. The components are made from Alumec 89 and operate at a maximum heat of 400 deg fahrenheit the clearance between the components can only be in the range of .0005 to .0010 of an inch. The mechanical operation of these two components are a reciprocating sliding motion with little to no-load. I have very little experience with aluminum. The key items for this coating or process should be.
1.) Friction reduction
2.) Little or know loss of thermal conductivity of the parent material.
3.) Durability
Some suggestions have been
Hard coating
Boron Electroless Nickel
Tufram from General Magnaplate
Any other suggestions or comments on the above would be appreciated.
