COB used for flashing pins

Does anyone know what the cob (chip-on-board) is on a flashing led novelty pin? Or a one chip solution to flashing an IR led? Needs to be a very small package, space is very limited.

Nope. Could be a lot of things.
First thing I would try would be to get one of your novelty pins and tear off the coating then look at the chip with a microscope. Often they have logos or part numbers on them.

It takes very little to flash a LED. Check the previous discussion thread240-151489 Just to flash a LED you only need a low frequency oscillator or multivibrator type circuit.

Found it??? A quick google using "Melody IC" (since the companies that make these devices probably also do blinking IC die) found

Are you kidding?!?! They mount inside the T-1 LEDs. Are you trying to fit this inside a living cell or something?

I vaguely remember years ago playing with a blinking LED. These require a fixed voltage such as 5V or 12V however when they blink they draw 10 to 20mA when on and 1 or 2mA when off. I think I once placed a normal LED in series with it and it flashed in unison. (Either that or I dreamt it all one night)

Looking at the specs of a blinking LED indicates that it may work.
