Does anyone know the key differences between CODAP/ AD Merkblatter and ASME VIII Div 1?

rak1,

I have not read CODAP (french code) and AD Merkblatter (german code), but for sure some of the differences would be on:
- factor of safety
- allowable stress philosophy
- material
- NDE requirements

Comparing the 3 codes you mentioned, ASME VIII-1 is the most common vessel code currently in use outside of the United States.

Correction on the last sentence on my previous reply...

Last time I looked (~10 years back), the European Codes required lower Carbon (I think < 0.25%) & some had prohibitions on Flux-Core arc Welding
