Wondering if anyone knows the code that requires a smoke detector above the Fire Alarm Control Panel? I know that we always Spec this but a contractor put this in without letting me know and did not add one. Got turned down and I was just curious about where I can find this? I looked in the NFPA 72 and can't find it. Can anyone help? The building is a Group R-2

In the 2007 edition of NFPA 72, the requirement is found in Section 4.4.5. The same referenced edition would no longer require the detector above the fire alarm control unit in a sprinklered building based on the new exception two.

the one pull is nfpa 13 2002 6.8.5.1.2, and for your question it is

4.4.5
