About two months ago I posted a frantic plea inquiring about code violations regarding a public building that did not have handrails on two risers in the office and the tread on the stairs was out of compliance because it was unequal in size. As a teacher I did not know what to do. I had done some research, but needed guidance about codes, the law, etc. My 87 year old mom fell and broke a hip and the code violator's insurance company was refusing to assume liability. Well, after three long, hard months of battling, and with the help of all of your advice, the insurance company FINALLY assumed liability. They paid out over 65,000 worth of medical bills and helped with other costs. We did not have to seek legal counsel, my mom did not have to go through the horrors of a deposition and the insurance company was made to uphold their policy agreement. Without this website and the help of all of you, I would never, NEVER have been able to fight the battle. I sent them reams of code information. They pondered where I had been able to find the law codes. Thank you, thank you, thank you. My mom faces more surgery but we know that she will be able to have caregiver services provided when she gets home because the insurance company has paid for those. Thanks again. You were all WONDERFUL.
