Codes cannot be copyrighted if they are incorporated into law

I thought this might be worthy of discussion. Last week, a US appeals court ruled in a case involving the ASTM, that codes that are incorporated into law could not be copyrighted. A link to one story is below.

I expect this could have lots of implications as far as building codes, the nfpa, etc etc...definitely food for thought.
