Hello Everyone,

I have recently seen a very strange and interesting challenge through my Abaqus simulation might be exciting for more investigations. We want to model a composite material defamation with Continuum Elements (C3D8R) and Cohesive Element (COH3D8). We have to also implement a pre-tension load in the model based on the practical case.
The problem is following:

Through two simulations with the same model and same material; if you implement a pretensile load on Cohesive Elements:

1- In Abaqus Implicit: the all Cohesive Elements reach all together to the damage initiation point; MAXSCRT=1 (the starting of degradation) just after the first increment

But for:

2- In Abaqus Explicit it works fine and Cohesive Elements reach to this point after a valid number of increments.

For both cases, I have used exactly the same model.
In this case, I would be happy if somebody could let me know if has any relevant experiences or hints.

Thanks in advance,
Best regards

The acoustic impedance mismatch can have a significant influence in a dynamic, especially an Abaqus/Explicit, job. So, if there is any discontinuity in terms of material properties or mesh, then that can result in reflections, which can have further downstream consequences.
