I have a Colchester lathe with a pump that I want to wire for the 400v side. The problem is there isn't a wiring diagram located anywhere on the motor or in it. It is a Colchester coolant pump no.149645. 200/250v 400/440v 3 phase. There is only six wires coming out of the motor not the usual 9. there are no markings on them. the only thing that could help is they are different colors. Anybody have one of these with the diagram that you could send me?

Colchester are a British manufacturer, now part of the 600 Group, and in this part of the world six leads is normal for an LV motor. Three of those leads should be linked together, and the 3-phase supply connected to the other three. The question is - which three?? Colchester should be able to offer some assistance unless it is *really* old. There are also plenty of fora on the 'net such as Practical Machinist where you'll probably find a fellow owner who could advise you.

I took the lid off my Colchester coolant pump (number 133385) and there was a scrap of paper with two wiring diagrams - one for 400/440 V connections and one for 200/250 V connections:
400/440 V drawing shows black, brown & grey linked together and red blue and yellow connected to the three lines.
200/250 V drawing red and black connected to one line, blue and grey to another line, brown and yellow to the third line.
I see there is provision for attachments. I will scan the drawing for you and see if it can be attached.
My lathe was made in 1964 and I think the coolant pump is the original. I have just had the pump motor rewound.
Does this help?

Thanks Morph, that's a useful record for the future. I have added it to my collection of notes. [smile]

Thanks guys. I had thought this was going to be one of those put it on the shelf and label it no good type of deals. Now I can use it.
