Cold and Hot insulation for U/G piping

did you see cold or hot insulation in U/G piping?
please explain.

Yes, I have seen both Hot and Cold Insulation installed underground.
In both cases it is mandatory that you use a waterproof covering to prevent moisture (water) from getting inside and damage the insulation.
 
Yes, used frequently when you may have such things as line heaters along the route and / or are trying to achieve hydrate control, for example. No sense adding millions of BTUs just to surrender them to the dirt and freeze off anyway.

The product of choice is typically Shaw Insul-8 or equivalent.
