I am trying to find a cold (if possible) electroless dip to give a little corrosion protection to a free machining steel like 1215. I would like it to be as straight forward as possible so I could do it in house without too much difficulty.

It needs to be as cheap and cheerful as possible but it does need to have some resistance to water, detergents, mineral oils and something around 8-10 hours to red rust salt spray resistance I could probably accept less.

If at all possible I would like to be able to avoid having to temperature cure the dip in other words if I could just let it dry that would be great.
Also an added bonus would be if it could be used as a de-watering agent after machining.

I realise that if I had all of the above ingredients I would be a wealthy man but I'll take as many as I can get.

I'm currently contract Zinc plating but it is too expensive for my market and while it is hassle free in terms of protection it is probably somewhat overkill.
Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for that uncelsyd.
In your experience, do the Pen-dip products get washed off or diluted by other oils, for instance mineral oil.
Do use the pen dip or pen dip super for dewatering after aqueous coolant machining ?

We use Pen Dip Super on clean dry parts. I've never receive any complaints about failure of the coating.

Since lost of the coating is a primary concern you might want to look at other protective products from Heatbath.

Another one impervious to nearly everything that I've used, though it more expensive, is Molykote Metal Protector Plus.
