Hello,

Does anyone know of a design aid for designging cold form shear walls? I have a grocery store that they want to use the steel studs with plywood attached to resist the loads. I have looked at IBC2000 which has some shear values. However, I would just like something more to read so I'm confident in my approach. (Plus that talks about anchorage, uplift, etc.) I know Simpson has connectors for some of this stuff. I also was wondering when you want to use a blocked wall verses designing for metal straps.

Thanks

The American Iron and Steel Institute published a Shear Wall Desgin Guide in February 1998. The name and address on the cover is
North American Steel Framing Alliance
1726 M Street, NW, Suite 601
Washington, DC 20036-4523
1-800-79-STEEL

Try a search on the web. You may get lucky.

Another published paper is "Monotonic Tests of Cold-formed steel shear walls with openings" prepared for The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Office of Policy Development and Research, Washington D.C. by NAHB Research Center, Inc. Upper Marlboro, MD Copyright 1997 by American Iron and Steel Institute.

I'm pretty sure I got this off the internet.
