I am designing a high temperature pressure vessel (100psi, 1400F). A portion of the vessel is "cooled" through an external cooling jacket. The cooling medium is ambient air. If I have a 30deg F air flow localized at the inlet to the cooling jacket will I induce significant thermal stresses when the vessel is operating at 1050F?

This can be modeled and calculated using FEM software for pressure vessels. Are you experienced in pressure vessel design using ASME B&PV Code, Section VIII, Div 1?

You need to model because the answer is YES.
These alloys have high thermal expansions, so be careful.
