Color coding as per ISO 14726

Hello everyone,

I have a couple of doubts about the pipe color coding and would like to get advice from the expert community.
first, doubt: is there any guideline for the recommended distance between two color bands? in my case, I need to install them on Ship where pipes are running in very tight spaces with several bends. Also, they are going on-off between the false floor (cheque floor) and other compartments.

Second, what should be the color code for the tank vents? especially talking about Diesel tank, Lube tank, Hydraulic oil tank and lastly water tank. In this case, which vent pipe color code applies: Discharge Air or Natural air, or atmospheric air? I assume Diesel and Gasoline tank vents have fumes mixed with air. for that, Do we have to use the same Diesel/Gasoline color band on its tank vent pipe?

There are some typical commonalities, but there is no mandatory standard. Discuss color schemes with the owner of the vessel.

As others said, there aren't rules but there are suggestions. 2 meters between markings, apply markings near bends, valves, bulkheads, etc. Vent pipes get labeled the same as fluid in the tank as they present the same hazards.

Gasoline? Don't confuse marine gas oil with gasoline.

Thanks 1503-44 , bimr , TugboatEng. Understood there is no fixed regulation for placement of color bands.

Regarding the doubt-2 type of color code for tank vent, very much agreed with TugboatEng. Tank vent must follow the same code as tank fluid color code. I got confused as the vessel vent pipe color bands are not followed as per tank fluid code, instead, the previously installed code is for Discharge air White-Black-White color band for all tank vents. Better to discuss this issue with the vessel owner and push for correction.

Good idea. I have to say I didn't really like the implications of painting tank vents with the same product color. Vapors can present a different class of problems.

Tanks that produce flammable vapors will have special requirements for venting.

As would exhausts, maybe battery, gas bottle compartments, black water tanks .. could be a number of things that would be better differentiated.
