Is there a national standard for seting up grid lines? Does AIA have a standard?
Obviously, the setup differs from firm to firm. Some have letters horizontal, while others have numbers.

Either way, if horizontal and vertical are letters and numbers, then what is a skewed gridline? "AA", "BB", etc? Also, what is the annotation for Radial gridlines? "R1", "R2"???

I've got a project with perpendicular grids (normal X Y axes), skewed gird lines, and also some radial gridlines. Any suggestions?

How about standard alphabeticalA,B,C for the XY gridlines, Greek (alpha, beta, gamma etc ) for the skew lines and numbers for the radial lines?

Just a thought ! Andy Machon

I've never heard of a national standard for grids. It is simply a way to control geometry, identify columns and footings, and help in cross coordinating your plans with the other disciplines on a particular project.

In my opinion, it is up to you and your design team to decide how you approach the layout and labeling of grids.

As always.....keep it simple as possible.

The old anagram - KISS -- Keep It Simple, Stupid!

I set up the grid lines with letters and numbers in the X Y and for the skewed, and used AA, BB, CC, etc for the rings of the radius, and 99, 98, 97, 96, etc for the radial lines from center point.

Each colum has a designation now, but wait until the project manager takes a look at it! (Darn architects!)
