Hi Forum,

I have a weird problem (I think) - I have received files from a client that I can't open. I have Wildfire 4.0 and he has Wildfire 4.0, but I cant open his files. neither of us are the greatest expert on this, but his computer departement says it is because they are using m080 and this is not compatible with m040 (which I think I am using).
Can it really be true that there is no compability within the same release (Wildfire 4.0) - I can understand if there would be a problem between WF4.0 and the new WF5.0. One more point. They are using PDM link (dont know if that does something to there files which means I cant open them ?!)

thanks in advance

Anders

PTC has always maintained compatibility within maintenance releases (M...), never between major releases (WFx to WFx+1). The PTC update advisor does not have any SPR about incompatibility between WF4 M040 & M080. I suspect your files may have been corrupted in transmission.

Well, let me re-phrase dgallup's answer first.
"never between major releases (WFx to WFx+1)"
The WFx to WFx+1 is supported, as is WFx to WFx+2, etc.
What is not supportted is WFx to WFx-1!
No backward compatability.

I would also guess that you have file corruption in your transfer process. Are you both on the same OS or is one of you on Unix and the other Windows? Was the file sent as a file or zipped first and the zip file transmitted. This will make a difference.
