Hi All,

I'm using V5 R14 on a stand alone PC and I thought I would like to learn some of the features of Catia that I don't normally use and know little about. To use Campanion for Highbrid Design and for DMU you need to have Companion for Mechanical design installed. So I installed it.

The problem I have is that it wont run. When I start the program either from within Catia Help or from the icon, it starts to load and the splash screen appears telling me its installing, but it soon hangs with a message
"Property Files not found"
"PSDEngineERR_en.properties and PSDEngineOUT_en.properties"

"check your server installation".

I've looked in the WLS512/intel_a/docs/wls/Resources folder and all the files it mentions are in there.

I'm no java expert but I suspect that some code in a file somewhere needs to be altered to point to the correct location.

Can anybody out there help me get this running.

Thanks

Diso,

I’m also having issue with Companion, R12 and R13 and have been in touch with IBM with some success. From what you are describing it is the same issue that I have seen when you do not have Microsoft Virtual Machine set up correctly. If you are running Windows 2000 or have upgrade to XP SP1 or XP SP2 you should be ok. If you are running a newer system, which came with a newer load of XP SP1 or XP SP2 you maybe out of luck as, I am with my latest computer.

Here are some of there suggestions,

Please type the following command at the C:\ prompt

jview

If jview is an unrecognized command, it indicates that Microsoft Java Virtual Machine is not installed on your WinXP system.

The FAQ for Companion V5R13 says "Microsoft Internet Explorer must be used in conjunction with: either Microsoft Java Virtual Machine at a minimum version number of 3158, or Sun Java Runtime Environment - Plug-in, at a minimum level of 1.4.0."

What I have done to get it to work on 2000 and some older XP workstation, is to make sure you have the latest Java virtual machine installed. Here are a couple of sites that you can download from

Once this is done, go to explorer and make sure that the following lines are un-check in the Internet Explore/Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Java(Sun) that reads

"Use Java 2 v1.4.2_05 for <applet> (requires restart)".

Restart Companion and it should run. Again I have had success on 2000 and system that have been migrated up but not with my new system that came with XP SP2. Please let me know if this works. I am hopping that Companion for R14 fixes the issue with have to have Microsoft Virtual Machine since Microsoft is no longer allowed to support it.

Thanks mikeymouse,

after a bit of trial and error using your suggestions I now have it up and running.

This is the second time SP2 has caused me major problems, the first involved a total loss of all data from a hard drive and a defunked computer, only fixed by upgrading the bios to accept SP2. Well thats progress I suppose.

Thanks again

Diso,

Glad I could help. What was the solution? I’m still struggling here on one of my XP SP2 systems and IBM is lost to what can be causing the issue. Was your system an upgrade to SP2 or was it a new install? Thanks.

Mikey,

Basically I followed your instructions. I found that the jview test proved negative so I downloaded the latest Java virtual machine as you suggested. Once that was installed I found that the companion would get a bit further before it hanged, so I uninstalled completley, both Java and companion. Then reinstalled Java followed by companion.

When I start companion I get a pop up blocker, just right click and accept blocked content, then I get a message about uncertified software and do I want to run it. It asks this twice and twice I accept it and click on run. It all works just fine then.

My system was an upgrade to SP2 but I made a new XP installation disk with SP2 spliced in so it installed with SP2. As I remember, I used SP2 downloaded from Microsoft rather than from an upgrade disk. I'm using companion with MS Internet Explorer rather than Netscape.

Hope some of this helps and good luck.
