Compare RISA-3D to CosmosWorks using Beam Elements

I have been using ComosWorks for machine design for several years. I just recently started using it to analyze small structures with beam elements.

I am wondering if RISA-3D is better suited (easier to use) for structures.

Does anyone have experience with both programs? How do they compare?

Well, RISA-3D is geared towards structural engineers (not mechanical). Therefore, it should be easier to use for structures. But, there is also an assumption that you will be familiar with many structural engineering terms.

There is a good (and free!) demo version on the RISA website. So, obviously, you could test it out to see if it will work for you.

I use both and prefer RISA to Cosmos when dealign with standard structural shapes. Cosmos is better for components with weird geometry or weird restraints/ loads. I still try to do hand calcs in Mathcad where possible.
