Hi Guys,

Just wondering if you can help me understand the best way to make a comparison on the old EFF2 vs IE2. What we are tryng to do is look at some of our motors and see if they were replaced with new more efficient motors and see what the pay back would be. We have EFF2 motors some WEG but mainly SIEMENS, I have got the efficiency figures from both manufactures but the new figures are calculated in a different way and so comparing one figure with another I think will not give me a true picture. Siemens have given us a calculator but this will only compare IE2 vs IE1. We also have real old motors which could be EFF3 but can not get figures for these, what is the best way to work out the figures for these and again what is the best way to compare.

Thanks in advance.

CEMEP-The Voluntary Agreement defined three efficiency classes (EFF1, EFF2 and EFF3) for low-voltage three-phase motors. It was launched in 1998 and quite successful.
CEMEP represents the European manufacturers of electrical machines and power electronics equipment and systems. It was founded on 1 of January 1991.

IEC 60034-30 defines new efficiency classes for motors and harmonizes the currently different requirements for induction motor efficiency levels around the world.
From ABB Technical note [2009] Table 1 you can see the threshold levels of the motor efficiency classes. See:
