Hi all,

Currently I am comparing the pros and cons between single duct with reheat AHU systems and dual duct systems. From some of the earlier papers I found that dual duct are most popular during 1970s and are mainly adopted in hospitals, laboratory that requires large volume of ventilation at the expense of high initial cost as well as low energy efficiency. However, from some recent published articles I found there is a vote of dual duct system over single duct ones by incorporating new concepts such as variable volume control, supply temperature reset, demand based control, etc., which achieves less energy consumption due to the removal of cooling/reheating process. Thus, I am quite confused if by carefully retrofit the dual system would be more efficient? Thanks!

Hire an HVAC Engineer rather than trying to bootstrap this.

It is a problem controlling humidity with dual duct. VAV with reheat at minimum volume is the way to go.
