I have the priviledge of working with some .igs files today. The usual cleanup process is to add any missing surfaces and sew everything together. However, in these files there are several 'corner' blends that are reversed. I don't mean that simply the surface normal is reversed but rather where I should have a small section of a spherical surface, I have the entire sphere except for the small section I need. I could really use a tool like the 'complement arc' command in the 'edit curve' dialog except for use on spheres instead of arcs.

The first file I ran into had radial symmetry so I only had to recreate 2 surfaces and rotate them around as needed. I'm not so lucky in the current file. It is not overly difficult to recreate the surfaces I need, but is rather tedious. Anybody have a neat quick solution?

ps I'm still stuck on NX2 and I don't know the originating CAD/translator combo, chances are slim to none that I will get any better files from the source.

OK, this might work. Take those incorrect surfaces and extract the edges around the area that you want to 'fill-in'. Then go to Edit -> Free Form Feature -> Boundary... and select the surface and select the 'Remove Trim' option and if these were translated as trimed surfaces, you should end up with a full spherical surface (this 'untrim' function has nothing to do with whether a model is parametric or not). If this works as I hope it does, then all you have to do is just perform a new Insert -> Free Form Feature -> Trimmed Sheet and retrim the surface so that you now have only the portion you desire.

Anyway, give this a try and let me know if it worked for you.

Works great, much easier than the other process I was using.

Thanks John.
