Our transportation dept has informed me a Section VIII vessel we have on order might be too large to ship in one piece. The final weld (for pressure boundary) would have to be completed in the field. The weld exam, hydro, and application of the U stamp would have to be done in the field as well.

I was wondering what some of the issues/logistics we may encounter if we do this. The only other foreseeable (but not necessarily viable) alternative is to cancel the order and order 2 smaller vessels instead of one.

ekschwab, it should not be too big a deal, see U-2(h)

the vessel fabricator can build complete and hydro and apply U stamp then cut in half and ship

field contractor can put together and apply r stamp

or

vessel build in 2 halves and issue 2 partials

field contractor weld together and issue u stamp

in the latter case...field contractor will have to use fabricators calculations and approve them

we have done several with shop completion and field applied r stamp

no biggie

match mark....fit up guides and round up rings

Thanks for the responses. This helps in my planning.
