Dear Expert,

Greetings!!

My client has a requirement for Stainless Steel Pipe & BW Fitting and Carbon Steel BW Fitting.
He have asked for Material acc. to NACE MR01-75.

How can I make sure if the material is acc. to NACE MR-0175?
If the pipe is compliant with NACE MR01-75, will the fittings manufactured from the same compliant to NACE MR01-75?

Awaiting your reply.

Best Regards

The material is as follows:

Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe 316 Grade
Seamless Steel Seamless Equal Tee 316 Grade
Carbon Steel Seamless Elbow ASTM A234 Gr. WPB

If your client wants these material to comply with the latest edition of NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 they will have to be in the following condition:

316 SS SMLS Pipe: "be in the solution-annealed and quenched heat-treatment condition; be free of cold work intended to enhance their mechanical properties; have a maximum hardness of 22 HRC." Also "A limit on the martensite content of these austenitic stainless steels should be considered."
It is only approved for operating conditions given in MR0175 Table A.2 (H2S, chloride, pH, temperature limits)

316 SS SMLS Tee: same as the pipe.

A234 Gr. WPB SMLS Elbow: 197 HBW maximum hardness; In one of the following heat treat conditions:
hot-rolled
annealed
normalized
normalized and tempered
normalized-austenitized-quenched-and-tempered
austenitized-quenched-and-tempered

The A234 Elbow must also meet all requirements contained throughout section 2.1.4 to 2.1.9 (welding, surface treatments, threading, etc.)

I'm sure someone will add if I missed anything.

The only thing to add would be that, if the client expects the inspection documents to state 'complies with NACE MR0175,' it will not be possible for the stainless steel items as the design and operating environment will not be known by the manufacturer.
