Hi

I have been trying to use crippling charts for sizing composite frames before any test data become available, first come to mind was Fig 5.7.2.4 in Mil-HDBK-17F. I later found out by plotting against other data in Mil-17 that the curve in Fig 5.7.2.4 is rather unconservative.

Is there any good literature out there published crippling data for composites. Also, what would be a good paper on crippling test setups.

Thanks

What other data in Mil-17 did you plot against the crippling curves?

There is very little data in the literature; I'll look thru my files when I get back to the office. Best bet is probably NASA Langley reports on stiffened panels; try searching the NASA technical reports online.

I can't think of anything published on test setups, but will look for those also.

Regards,

Steve

I have found Bonanni's paper from NASA STI site and it has crippling test data for I, J C and Z sections. The data agree well when plotted against Fig 5.7.2.4 in Mil-17. Fig 5.7.2 (h) and Fig 5.7.2.1 (c) were data based on Flat plates. Looks like the crippling curve in Fig 5.7.2.4 is not bad. We will still have need to do tests at the end of the day.
