Hello!

I'm in the middle of comparing aluminum and composite wing structure using Patran/Nastran. I already have the results for the aluminum one, but unfortunately I can't access failure indices results for a composite simulation. I've seen numerous of tutorials for failure indices, but there is no clear information how the program should be set up in order to get failure indices results in f06 file. Is it possible to give me step by step way to get to failure indices? I'm running Patran 2011.

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

Several parameters should be present in your bdf file when requesting the failure indices:

- PCOMP should have a failure theorie (FT) defined (Tsai-Wu, Hoffman...) and a Bonding Shear allowable (to calculate the inter laminar shear)
- Be sure that PARAM,NOCOMPS,NO does not figure in your bdf
- In the material card you should have the tension / compression for direction 1 and 2 (for MAT8) and also the shear allowable.
Nastran will use these allowable to compute the indices.

Hope this helps
