Does anybody have any good references for the painting of composite materials? I'm used to ISO 12944 for metallic materials, is there an equivalent for composites/plastics?

Need the coating system for erosion resistance, as well as environmental protection of the epoxy substrate (have only a thin gel coat).

If I remember correctly, there are two or three ASTM standards that address this topic to one degree or another. I no longer have access to the ASTM books, so I can't look them up for you, but check your closest engineering library or maybe find something online. I have painted epoxy/fiberglass and polyester/fiberglass with Sherwin Williams' Polane line, PPG's paints (can't remember the product name), Glidden's Glidthane, Carbit Paints products, and several types of polyurethane blends. We tended to have the best luck with the Polane stuff for the most part.

Good luck.
