I have 9" reinforced concrete slab on 2" metal deck. How can I calculate the composite section properties?

Refer to the deck manufacturers website, they should have charts giving effective properties e.t.c.

or google sdi, they may have a publication.

Is the deck fabricated for composite design?... also VicWest used to have a deck publication that went through the design method for composite deck design.

Thanks for the info .... but this is a custom deck and I need some guidelines for the section properties calculation

for the custom deck properties you need to get your hands on the AISI cold formed steel design specification and commentary.

Am I missing something or can you just calc the section properties based on a transformed section of concrete to steel? Tables would be nice, but it doesn't seem that difficult.
A 9" composite slab sounds like you are asking for a ton of shear connectors, you may not be able to get the desired amount of composite action depending on the number of shear connectors you can fit on the beam.

The "Composite Deck Design Handbook" produced by SDI (the steel deck institute) has explicit direction and examples on this. MYerges is correct in that it boils down to transformed section properties however if you want to match the exact assumptions and everything that SDI uses this handbook is worthwile. Copy I have is from 1997 by Heagler et al.
