hi,

i am doing the compression analysis in ansys. i ahve a gradient structure along the thickness direction. I have 4 strips of 12*12*5 (l*b*h) each. now i placed these 4 strips on top of each other (modulus is different in all strips). so now wat shd be my BC. also how to apply pressure gradually. i mean i did the compression testing in INSTRON and i got a load vs displacement curve and load is varying with the time. now i want to apply same gradual load at the top of the surface (its a 2 D model) meaning starting from zero and end at 300 N. i read about the transient analysis and the reduced method int here i need to define the master DOF iread about MDOF but i not not sure what should i select for MDOF.

let me know if i am not clear in explaining the problem.

I don't think you need to do a transient analysis for this. From the sounds of things static should work just fine. You understand your structure better than anyone here will unless you can provide a picture so BC's are best thought of by you. However, contact elements should be the most effective way to join the different components. I you feel you need to apply the load as a ramped load rather than a stepped loading you can do this using the KBC command. Also, using a number of substeps to aid convergence.

Something like this should do well:
/solu
kbc,1
nsubst,,,

hi,

geometry is simple its a cuboide of dimension 12*12*5 (l*b*h)all in mm. i have 4 strips of these kind so what i did in ansys i made 4 areas (its a 2D analysis) and glued them through boolean operator. i did not apply contact element. for the boundary conditions i fixed DOF of the bottom line in Y direction and applied a pressure at the top. i can not attach a pic here i tried but i can not do it. is there any way i can attach or send the pic?
