Hi,

is it possible to assign traction compressive strength to cohesive layer?

I have assigned Traction Separation response and material. But this is only for tension adn shear strength. Is it possible to add compressive strength?

Thanks

Cohesive elements are for interface failure. An interface does not fail in compression. Maybe the material does, but then you have to define material failure.

That is what I was thinking to do. To define material that can fail in compression. But, which material is best for this?

How shall we know what material you have?

Check the users manual if you want to know what material model has what damage options.

I jast want to simulate elastic compression strength until some value and then it dispears. Something similar like traction separation, but now for compression. Do you understand?

I was searching through the materials that Abaqus has, but I haven't found one like this. Maybe you have advise me better?

In many material you can define damage initiation and damage evolution, and with a steep slope of damage evolution you could apply a direct failure of the material. But that's challenging for the convergence, if you do it in A/Standard.

I am using A/Explicit. I was checking the materials and as I see possiblities are:

1. Elastic material/suboption Fail stress. But I don't want to define tension stress. As I have read this option is mentioned for fiber reinforced materials. I am not sure will it work, I will try.

2. Hashin damage. Similar case like first option (if I don't define tension and shear strength). But these strengths are for longitudinal direction, so here the situation is little bit more complicated.

3. Concrete smeared cracking, using failure ratios.

What do you think about selection?

Or I should take other approach, since I have modelled tension and shear with cohesive element, maybe there is easier way just to add compressive strength until some value? Maybe with yero length spring or connector?
