Opening of BDV in compressor system when the cause is fire or gas is acceptable, But API RP 14c says “A blowdown valve should be located on the compressor unit final discharge line(s) for compressors greater than 1000 hp”. In the other hand for any reason (for example high liquid level inlet scrubber), BDV should be open and compressor system should be depressurized. Why API 14c insist open BDV for compressor systems when there is not any fire or gas leakage? Because generally BDV opens in fire and gas conditions.
