Hello-
I am looking to use contact pairs in my finite element mesh using Comsol. The current outputs I am getting using contact pairs are completely wrong. In fact, it appears that the contact pairs are 'repelling' instead of coming together. Is there a trick to making this work in Comsol? I've tried a variety of options including altering the solver parameters and using a quasi-static solver. Thank you.

I have no idea about using Comsol but it sounds like your problem may be due to an incorrect specification of the nodes/pairs making up the contact surface.....For contact problems using node pairs there must be some mechanism for determining whether the pair is in tension or compression and it sounds like whatever you have specified is reversed from what it should be......

Check your users manual for the proper specification of the node pairs.....

Hi Again,
I definitely looked through my contact pair setup with my advisor to make sure it was correct. When I remove the contact, the model works exactly as predicted. However, as soon as I add the contact, it won't converge. I think this might be a Comsol specific problem as I have used contact pairs in ANSYS without a problem. Any specific help with Comsol would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
