I will be producing a paper for the Western Protective Relay Conference looking at a way of enhancing protection in industrial facilities to reduce tripping times while still maintaining selective coordination.
To provide real world examples that can verify operation of the scheme, I am interested in gathering COMTRADE files from actual systems. One concern I have regarding my scheme is potential false operation on circuit energization, so I am particularly interested in files triggered by a breaker closing. The second interest would be any files that show a fault that was cleared by a downstream device without the relay producing the file tripping its breaker. I am also interested in files of faults where there may have been slow clearing of the fault.
To be useful to me, the files will need to have both voltage and current channels. A description of the circuit involved is also needed with the available fault current at the point of the relay (or the per unit source impedance) and the circuit downstream of the relay. For the downstream side, the circuit (impedances) between the relay and the point of the fault or between the relay and either the load or the next transformer down stream. If a transformer is downstream of the relay, the size and impedance of the transformer would be quite helpful.
I will be glad to acknowledge, in the paper, all contributors of files used to provide examples, but if you would prefer to remain anonymous I can accommodate that also.
You can find my contact information at I can work with ASCII COMTRADE files, Basler binary COMTRADE files, and SEL event files in their various formats.
Thanks,
David Beach
