I ran into this problem while checking the anchor bolt in column pedestal. The column reaction has 250 kips tension and 70 kips shear simultaneously. The pedestal has designed for sufficient perimeter rebars to transfer AB tension. Shear key is also designed to take 100% max shear load. Concrete strength was checked under pure shear.
Now I was reading ASCE anchor bolt design guide for this example problem on shear key. It checked concrete breakout under tension + shear interaction. Ensure Nua/(phi*Nn)+Vua/(phi*Vn)<1.2. Using Vn as the shear key concrete strength and Nn as anchor bolt tensile strength.
My question is: Is concrete breakout tension+ shear interaction still needed in my case: when tension reinforcement is sufficient?
Appreciate the help!
