Hi

What should be the minimum concrete cover to reinforcement for Precast cable trenches as per BS Codes for a durability of 40 years? 75mm is recommended in BS if concrete is cast directly on ground for cast in place concrete. Is there any other reference in BS which specifically talking about precast elements and not Cast in place? ACI is specific about precast elements buried in ground and allowing to reduce the cover if concrete is precast(40mm cover is recommended). As per BS, I understood that 75mm cover is recommended because of uneven surface and not because its buried in earth. If concrete is cast on a perfect steel mould as in case of precast, no need for such a large cover.
