Concrete curb for railing

The contractor did not make the concrete ramp wide enough for a railing. Suggesting this detail to add railing at edge. Appreciate any comments.

How thick is the slab? I think codes require guardrail forces to be in either direction, although outward force is likely the only one. If the original installation had an embedded vertical then thickness may be greater, else was the vertical attached to a base? If so, can you use a base? It's difficult to install pipes embedded in concrete, where alignment and level is an issue.

Rather than think climate change and the corona virus as science, think of it as the wrath of God. Feel any better?

It is a 5" slab. The original plan was to core for the posts and fill it with non-shrink grout.
