Would some one please remind me the ACI code that lists the tolerances for finished concrete work? I could not find this in 318 or 301. Did I miss it?

If a column is precisely plumb and square but is rotated 1” about its vertical axis, any cause concern? During the pour a support brace got banged pretty good by the oyster bucket knocking the form around a tad. They got it back into plumb and its square, but just not exactly square with the other columns.

I believe ACI 301 references ACI 117-Standard Specifications for Tolerances for Concrete Construction and Materials.

Just depends on what you need - emphasis on "need" vs. "want".

Boffintech....ACI 117 as noted

Also, I've read a lot of your posts and your profile, and I assume you are a structural inspector working in the Construction Materials Testing/Inspection field. You seem to be quite detailed and observant in your approach to field work. This business needs many more conscientious people like you. You're probably not the most popular guy on site, but I'll bet the engineers responsible for the work are glad you're there! Keep it up.

Ron, thanks for the kind words.

So I mentioned to the contractor that I would check ACI-117 to verify if the offending column was within tolerance as placed and that in the mean time I would include a note in my daily report to the owner and the EOR concerning the slight placement error. In order to avoid undue scrutiny and possible recriminations, he preferred a do-over. It only took a couple of hours to chip it down.
