Hi,
I was tasked to design the side walls supporting a concrete pedestrian ramp that links to another pedestrian bridge, and I am a bit confused at the approach to take. should I be treating those side walls as retaining walls? Also, I assume we will need to incorporate grade beams. Ramp is a 6" one way slab

I would normally treat such walls a retaining walls for the sake of wind, seismic, and soil retention. That said, you can certainly avail yourself of the ability to build a favorable "bucket" out them if that would not violate other project constraints.
